A stone coated shingle roof may fool the neighbors, because it has so many of the qualities of traditional asphalt. This top quality roofing that lasts so long; it erases any disparity in the initial material costs (and labor costs to install are lower). The expected average life of a conventional asphalt roof is 12 to 15 years. Florida and coastal state roofing lasts on the low end of that range because of the beating our weather and the sun give it. In other words, investment in a lifetime steel shingle roof replaces the need of buying three or four conventional replacement roofs over a typical period of home ownership. Plus, you don’t have to go through tear off and replacement, which many people think is particularly messy and noisy when the material is asphalt.
Stone coated steel is considered a revolution in home building materials (it also has all of the commercial applications as any asphalt shingle on a commercial building). Research and technology have combined to create a top-performing design with ultimate attractiveness. It comes in a variety of colors that match the palette of conventional shingles, so they won’t stand out in a neighborhood. The color does not fade.
One reason a stone coated shingle roof is weather tight is that it does not consist of individual shingles nailed down one alongside another. The steel roofing we install is made of interlocking panels, so there are far fewer seams. Each panel is manufactured with the slight dips that mimic the overlapping look of asphalt shingles. And a coating of granule stone goes atop the acrylic base coat. The difference is these granules will not scour off in wind and hail, as routinely happens with the traditional material. The individual panels can be replaced if a tree branch comes down hard on your roof.
There are many surprises in store when you choose a steel shingle roof. It is surprisingly light weight, and it is non-skid, so you can walk on it to sweep off debris. The spray of a hose is all it takes to wash off any grime.
