Terra Cotta Roof

You can have a terra-cotta roof with none of the headaches and all of the beauty. See for yourself why metal roofing is the exceptional alternative to conventional tile. Stone coated steel has the same classic look as clay tile. But our product is superior from the inside-out. The metal is next generation steel molded into the traditional semi-circular shape. Leading edge color adhesive – coated with fine stone chips – maintains the texture and deep permanent color of clay tiles.

The technology behind our metal roofing is thoroughly modern. But the idea of replacing crumbly clay with metal has a rich history. In the 1850s architects hit on the idea of using cast iron in the shape of tiles. This roofing was used well into the 1930s. Our modern steel is far lighter than cast iron, of course, and it is also lighter than conventional terra-cotta roof tiles. Certain grades of asphalt shingle are heavier than steel.

  • So many of our customers tell us they are glad they made the switch to metal. It is by far and away the material we most often recommend for the roof of a newly-constructed house and as a replacement roof. In Florida and along the Gulf Coast there are commercial applications, too, as cities develop uniform building codes that require Spanish style architecture topped by a terra-cotta roof.

The innovations in stone coated steel roofing begin with the durability of the steel, which carries a lifetime warranty. The inventiveness does not stop there. Our roofing system consists of metal panels that have been pressed at the factory into the half-moon shape of classic clay tile. The panels are designed to lock securely one into the next. This interlocking feature gives the metal terra-cotta roof its wind resistance, all brands have been proven to meet or exceed Miami-Dade wind uplift requirements of 150 miles per hour. Think about it: traditional clay tile sits one atop the next, and water will find its way in. Because each of our metal panels locks into the next, you get roofing that stands up to hours of wind-driven rain that accompanies our tropical weather. The color and stone chip coating are factory adhered for outstanding hail and impact resistance, as well as to hold its color and texture for decades.

The fact is that any conventional terra-cotta roof will fail with time. Terracotta literally means "cooked earth" in Latin. Roofing tile is baked into shape. It is made from natural clay, which gives it the reddish color. But here’s the thing about baked clay. In time it will crack, chip and eventually crumble. It just doesn’t hold together forever. A stone coated steel terra-cotta roof won’t fall apart, won’t develop cracks and can’t lose a corner to a branch or misplaced baseball. And it won’t dent, either.

Just as we as a company have dedicated our business to promoting the benefits of steel roofing, we partner with manufacturers who invest in advancing the quality of their products. We are proud to offer the Stonehenge Roofing Products, Decra Roofing Systems, Metals USA building products, and more.
